CARPE: PAINTING OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS ALL OVER GREECE 2009 (ATTICA - THESSALONIKI - KARDITSA)
Type of Sponsorship: Offer of Color Paint
Date: 2009 (August - December)

Carpe Diem, under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Youth and five municipalities in Greece (Thessaloniki: Evosmos, Ambelokipoi. Attica: Ilioupolis, Peristeri. Karditsa: Karditsa Municipality) cooperates with them in the summer and until December 2009 in the production of five (5) large murals on school buildings' walls.

This whole initiative forms part of the "Painting of School Buildings - All over Greece" program which we have put into practice since 2007 all over Greece. This program aims to create large murals on large school buildings' surfaces of considerable height with the contribution of famous Greek artists and muralists. Subjects vary (environment, education, history, writers-poets portraits, etc.) and are jointly decided upon by all participants (school directors, school committees, parents' associations, student councils, local elementary school care departments).

CARPE DIEM IDENTITY
Carpe Diem (a non-profit organization) was founded by a group of people whose aim is to promote the arts and the techniques of Alternative Cultural Forms. This Group has been active in Greece since 1998, mainly in the art of Wall Painting.

Carpe Diem's objective is to visually intervene in the urban landscape by creating outdoor murals on large surfaces, through festivals and exhibitions. Wall paintings express the artists' ideas, their creative zeal, the need to render public spaces more homelike. They also offer an opportunity and 'urge' the citizens to get out of their 'cages', to take to the streets, to communicate, to talk to each other, to really 'look' by adding color and imagination to their ideas. To free themselves.

Carpe Diem develops visual interventions and works of art covering a broad variety.
